Auto Repair in Chicago |
High-Mile Club
And you thought it was amazing when Lonnie's car reached 300,000 miles!
Customer Tony B. topped that on July 5, when his Jeep Cherokee reached 400,000 miles. Tony brought sparkling cider and doughnuts to celebrate with his pals at Evanston Duxler.
Tony, who lives in Kankakee but works in Chicago, started coming to Duxler in 1999 with his Nissan Sentra. He had heard good things about Duxler, and he liked the service and the people "They always make you want to come back." (Besides, he likes the way Kieesha S. answers the phone — and they share the same birthday.)
When Tony's Sentra was badly damaged in an accident (it had 270,000 miles on it), he purchased his 2001 Jeep Cherokee. He's been returning to Duxler for maintenance and repair on that car ever since.
We asked Tony why he keeps his high-mileage car in a world where most people trade their cars in after 50,000 miles. "I think it's greener. It's less wasteful. I hate all that consumer pressure to buy a new car when I have a perfectly good one. I'd rather focus on keeping it well-maintained. I love this car."
Distinguished Duxler!
Duxler Complete Auto Care is the proud recipient of the 2010 Small Business of the Year Award from the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce.
Safety First!
It's not just your car that needs to prepare for winter — drivers need to prepare themselves as well. It's important to re–familiarize yourself with how to stop your car effectively, whether you have a standard or anti-lock braking system.
Other important things to remember are: using your headlights, keeping a safe distance from other cars, and trying not to be so rushed that you find yourself "tailgating" the car in front of you. Following another car too closely is a main cause of accidents in the bad weather!
Duxler Partners with ReadingTree to Promote Literacy
ReadingTree and Duxler Complete Auto Care have partnered on a book bin collection effort at the Duxler locations in Evanston & Northbrook.
Reading Tree is a nonprofit organization with two missions: to keep books from contributing to the saturation of our nation's landfills and to provide books to children,
families, schools and libraries that desperately need them. Over 2.1 million books were given to kids across North America in 2009. Reusable books can be dropped off at the
Reading Tree book donation bins located at Duxler Complete Auto Care and other high traffic areas throughout the Chicagoland area.
Reading Tree invites members of the community to become involved by donating books they no longer need to aid the literacy crisis. All types of books are welcome,
including new, used, hardback and paperback. Quality children's books are donated to local, early learning programs and elementary school-age children. Your donated books
will go to change lives in your community. For more information, please visit www.readingtree.org.
Complaint Free Zone
For another consecutive year, Duxler Complete Auto Care earned the Better Business Bureau's Complaint Free Award. Duxler was recognized for superior performance in the area of ethical business practices and a commitment to total customer satisfaction.
The New & Improved Duxler Days!
Since Glenn Moak started with his first shop in Evanston in the 1980’s, Duxler has supported local schools, sports teams, and not-for-profit organizations. “I think the future lies in the hands of kids, and it’s nice to help them out silently, in a way they don’t know about.”
“As a child, I was always taught that it is important to give back. It’s a core principle of our family, and it’s a core principle of our company, “ added Brian Moak, Glenn’s son and co-owner.
In keeping with Duxler’s tradition of supporting the community, we will focus on three wonderful and worthy organizations in 2011 through Duxler Days: The Adoption Center for Family Building; Little City Foundation; and Y.W.C.A. Evanston’s Mary Lou’s Place.
The Adoption Center for Family Building:The Adoption Center is a private, non-profit adoption agency licensed in both Illinois and Indiana. They offer a safe, caring atmosphere for birthmothers, birthfathers and adoptive families. Staff consists of professional counselors who are passionate about adoption, most having had experience with adoption in their own lives. All counseling services are free to pregnant women considering adoption. Visit www.centerforfamily.com for more information.
Little City Foundation:For more than 50 years, Little City Foundation has been ensuring that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are provided with the best options and opportunities to live safely, work productively, explore creatively and learn continuously throughout their lifetime. For more information, visit www.littlecity.org.
Y.W.C.A. Evanston’s Mary Lou’s Place:Mary Lou's Place, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children (formerly the Evanston Shelter for Battered Women and Their Children), was created in 1980 as a five-bed volunteer-run shelter, and has since grown into a 32-bed residential facility. Women and children, including boys up to the age of 12, are able to access emergency shelter for up to 90 days. For more information, visit www.ywcae-ns.org.
“We will be giving in a way we’ve never done before,” said Brian Moak. “We will be donating a portion of sales every month to each organization on behalf of our customers.”
In 2010, Duxler donated several thousand dollars to numerous organizations through our Duxler Days program: American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life; New Foundation Center; Y.O.U. of Evanston; Ricky Byrdsong Race Against Hate; Family Matters; Leukemia Research Foundation; Oasis; Heartland Animal Shelter; Walter & Connie Payton Foundation; Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
